Express Entry

If you’re wondering ‘How Can I Get Canadian Permanent Residence?’ Then Express Entry is the solution.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the online immigration system established in January 2015 by the Canadian Government for permitting Canadian Permanent Residence based on the online application.

Express Entry is a popular and systematic approach. This type of entry relies on its importance in selecting the best-suited candidates rather than the ‘first come, first serve’ method. In this method, the Canadian government set rules of parameters to judge the efficiency and quality of the candidates. Some of the parameters regulated are qualification, age, language, profession, work experience, etc.

Who Can Apply for Express Entry?

Express Entry is the Canadian government’s regulated immigration system brought for Skilled Workers. That is why Express Entry is also known as Skilled Workers Immigration Scheme.

Who Are Federal Skilled Workers?

Federal Skilled Workers are people who possess proficient work experience either full-time for a year or part-time continuous employment within the past 10 years. They should have a suitable qualification, age, and language preference as per Canada’s official language.

Federal Skilled Workers, who are eligible to apply for Express Entry, shall submit their profiles under Express Entry Pool. Express Entry Pool is the collection of all the applications of the eligible candidate which are stored for 12 months. Once, the candidate is selected, based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) shall receive an invitation. After receiving the invitation, the selected candidate must submit the full application within 60 days thereto.

How Does Express Entry Immigration Works?

As the Canadian government introduced this new system with a meticulous approach, the Express Entry system is a highly recommended and widely used method for the skilled workers of Canada.

Step 1: Find Out The Eligibility

After knowing about who can apply, go through the eligibility before applying for Express Entry. This method provides four different programs with respective different criteria.

Following are the programs offered in Express Entry

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canada Experience Class Program
  • Select streams under Provincial Nominee Programs

Step 2: Arrange The Documents

To apply as a required candidate for selection, they need to attest and attach documents with their profile. Documents like

  • Language test results
  • A Passport or a Travel Document
  • Educational Credential Assessment
  • Written Job Offer from Canadian Employer (If Applicable)
  • Proof of Funds

After their profile has been selected, further documents shall be attached by the desired candidate as per the Canadian Government’s Guidelines.

Step 3: Check The Score

The application of the candidates is judged based on some prescribed parameters decided by the Canadian Government which further helps in deciding the score of each individual. Better the score, higher the rank. Higher the rank, the better the chance of getting a permanent residence in Canada.

Parameters used are:

  • Skills
  • Education
  • Language Ability
  • Work Experience
  • Other Factors

A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) has been generated to rank the candidates. The scores are recorded out of 1200 points. The highest-ranking candidate is asked for the submission of their application in the Express Entry pool through ‘regular rounds of invitations.’

Step 4: Invitation To Apply (ITA)

Invitation to Apply (ITA) will be sent by IMMIGRATION, REFUGEES, AND CITIZENSHIP CANADA (IRCC) to candidates who scored above the cut-off points. Candidates will have a period of up to 60 days after ITA to submit the full profile and apply for Permanent Residence.

If a candidate does not get any ITA then, their application will be stored in Express Entry Pool for up to 12 months. After that, they need to update their profile.

*Note: Receiving ITA does not necessarily mean that an applicant has been accepted for Permanent Residence. ITA is proof of applying further for Permanent Residence.*

Step 5: Apply For Permanent Residence

A detailed-profile has to be submitted after receiving an ITA within 90 days. The following information should be included:

  • Police Certificate
  • Medical Exams
  • Proof Of Funds
  • Birth Certificates
  • Digital Photos
  • Updates Address/Contact/Tests Etc.
  • Other Documents

After inculcating the required information, the candidate has to submit the profile and wait for the response.
